Hospice Care Leader Gives Building to Crisis Pregnancy Center
On February 12, A crowd of friends, family, and supporters gathered at the corner of Bounds St. and Office Park Plz. to honor nurse-citizen Joyce Caracci, founder of Sta-Home and devoted advocate for the Center for Pregnancy Choices (CPC). The reception celebrated the donation of the 114 Office Park Plz. building to the CPC. The building also houses the administrative office of Pro-Life Mississippi (PLM).
Caracci stated, “I have a strong sentimental attachment to this building because it was where Sta-Home came into being in 1976.” Caracci went on to say that a time capsule was buried on the property, which will be dug up in 2020. Sta-Home stayed there for over 30 years before it gradually outgrew the building and everyone moved on.
As Sta-Home thrived, Caracci expanded her community involvement by volunteering as a receptionist for the CPC. She was particularly passionate about improving infant mortality rates, and her desire to help pregnant women and their babies inspired her to allow the CPC to move from their previous, smaller location to her building at 114 Office Park Plaza.
The Center for Pregnancy Choices has now been in the building for 5 years. Caracci decided she did not want to leave the building in the hands of strangers. So she made the CPC an offer they could not refuse. She explained she felt led by the Lord to donate the building to the CPC and PLM.
This donation comes at a crucial time for the CPC, which is expanding to a third clinic in the Fondren area this year. The donated building in North Jackson, however, will remain as their administrative base as well as continue to see patients for a variety of free services aimed at empowering women facing unplanned pregnancies to choose life.
